In linea, insomma, con quello che giustamente Piparo definisce: «Un musical tutt’altro che religioso. Jesus Christ Superstar è, infatti, una messinscena laica. In essa Gesù stesso è solo un uomo, e non il figlio di Dio. Non fa miracoli. Soprattutto muore senza risorgere. E proprio la mancanza della resurrezione non ha consentito alla Chiesa Cattolica di accettarlo pienamente». In attesa del debutto, l’esperienza si sta rivelando per Venuti preziosissima. «Ho accettato di viverla per staccare un po dalla routine dei concerti; per imparare qualcosa sul piano della presenza scenica e della sottigliezza interpretativa. E poi, nascosta nelle mie canzoni, c’era già un bel po’ di teatralità».
Lo spartito di Webber lo ritiene coinvolgente ma tutt’altro che facile, «musicalmente obliquo, con tempi dispari e melodie dissonanti». Ma il cantante (che ha già scritto metà delle canzoni per la sua prossima incisione) non teme che questa scelta rappresenti un rischio, nei confronti dei fan che lo amano soprattutto interprete sofisticato.
«Sono passati i tempi in cui il rock di Webber era considerato “facile”, troppo orecchiabile e commerciale. Oggi, proprio in virtù della sua cifre inconfondibilmente “anni 70”, Jesus Christ è a tutti gli effetti, e per tutti, finalmente un classico».
